Christmas and the upcoming holiday season is the perfect time to connect with family and friends.
As a collective, we have shifted our thinking about Christmas. Things like; what gifts we want to buy, how we want to celebrate Christmas, and even who we want to celebrate with have all been updated...just a little.
1. Thoughtful gift giving
This year, Australians are dreaming of a purposeful Christmas.
Many of us want to be healthier, and want our families or friends to be healthier, so be mindful that a gift around sport, health or wellness is a gift that last beyond the festive period. For example, when buying fitness or sports equipment, or a new pair of trainers you are giving the gift of health and fitness - something that will benefit both body & mind.
- New trainers for your dad to get him moving
- A yoga or pilates set that will help relax your stressed out friend
- A smart watch to motivate and monitor your mum
2. Shared experiences
One of the big trends this year is doing things together. Instead of watching sport, we’re going to play sport… well, at least some kind of activity. Things like backyard cricket, badminton, bucket dunk and giant backyard dice aren’t just great gifts, they are also great experiences that you can enjoy with the whole fam. Just watch dad eyes light up when you say: “Who is up for a game of cricket?”
3. Family
‘family’ is a term described as friends who are just as important to you as your family. This year we will invite a few extras along to our celebrations. The good news is that family are easy to buy gifts for because you know them so well. In the spirit of shared experiences, a game of Driveway Tennis or Slamnet might be the perfect combination of silliness mixed with competitive fun that create Christmas memories that last a lifetime.
4. Rethink your stocking stuffers
The problem with traditional stocking stuffers is that after Christmas, many stocking stuffers don’t get used very often, if at all. This year, the trend is to fill your stockings with gifts that promote health and wellbeing: Pilates socks, PTP bands, Yoga tees, flow balls and hand weights are just some of the simple, inexpensive gifts that contribute to fitness…instead of landfill.

This year, one third of Australians are intending to break with tradition and seek out new ways to celebrate the festive season. Maybe you’ll spend the day at the beach? Or in a caravan? You might travel somewhere wildly exotic… like New Zealand. However you spend your holiday, you’ll almost certainly be near water at some stage. So, make sure you have all the beach gear you need! In fact, you might want to get yourself a beach cart. They’re ideal for when you have loads of stuff to bring.
Christmas and the holiday season is a time to feel the joy by spending time with the people we love.
