Rebel Partners with Game On
Rebel is proud to announce their new partnership with Game On Recycling.
Game On Recycling is a recycling program co-developed by Wilson and Australia New Zealand Recycling Platform that is designed to help make Australia’s sporting industry the world leader in sustainability. They provide collection and recycling services for sports.
Game On Recycling and rebel have partnered to create and expand collection and recycling options for sports balls, making it easier for the players and sports enthusiasts to discard the products they no longer use and keeping the materials in the economy, and out of landfills.
Moving forward, rebel will offer collection bins at several key locations (see the list below). These locations will expand over time.
What can be recycled?
Game On Recycling and rebel will be focusing on the collection and recycling of sports balls. Below is the list of currently accepted items:
- Soccer Balls
- Aussie Rules Balls
- Basketball Balls
- Rugby Balls
- Netballs
- American Footballs
- Volleyballs
- Gaelic Footballs
- Water Polo Balls
- Children’s Playground Balls
- Hi Bounce Jumbo Balls
- Tennis Balls
- Squash Balls
- Badminton Shuttlecocks
- Table Tennis Balls
Where can we drop off equipment?
Currently the program is available at the following 10 rebel stores:
- rebel Prahran
- rebel Highpoint
- rebel Geelong
- rebel Melbourne Bourke Street
- rebel Doncaster
- rebel Southland
- rebel Waurn Ponds
- rebel Fountain Gate
- rebel Forest Hill
- rebel Plenty Valley
At these rebel stores, you can drop off your equipment in the designated Game On Recycling Collection Point
How It Works?
Once you’ve deposited your old sports balls at a rebel store, they will be sent to our recycling partner at a facility in Melbourne. They will then be separated into:
- Items that can be reused and put back into circulation, thereby extending the life of the product; or
- Items that have well and truly come to the end of their life and need to be recycled.
Re-use items will be made available to various community clubs, groups, institutions and organisations, alleviating the costs of purchasing new equipment. Items destined for recycling will be granulated into 5mm pieces and used in a variety of manufacturing processes including producing soft fall matting.
We’re also looking to innovate and even turn these sports equipment into the sporting surface itself!

About Game On Recycling
Game On Recycling is a combined effort by Wilson Sporting Goods Co and Australia New Zealand Recycling Platform.
It is also supported by a grant from the National Product Stewardship Investment Fund.
Game On Recycling is taking the first steps to set up a national recycling system and help curb the waste that is created by the sports industry. This is the beginning, but we know that Game On Recycling will be a significant step in innovating for a sustainable future in sports.
